Diamonds don’t need to take forever

A tiny sliver of diamond – a seed – is placed into a Cortes Technology CVD reactor in ISROUGH’s facilities. At it’s core, it’s identical to a diamond mine. But unlike a diamond mine, it’s ethical and completely sustainable.

Electricity is then used to activate the process gases in the vacuum chamber, mainly hydrogen (created by pure water) and methane for carbon supply.

Under the extreme conditions, carbon atoms in the methane separate from the hydrogen. These atoms “rain” down onto the diamond seed, vertically growing the diamond atom by atom, similar to the way snow collects on a table.

Within a few days or a few weeks, depending on the desired carat size, the diamond is ready.

The diamond is removed from the reactor and is cut, polished and graded by ISROUGH’s skilled Israeli diamond cutters. The final product is equal to a traditionally mined diamond in every sense.

The cut diamond is then distributed to one of hundreds of retail sellers in our network. Lab diamonds are sold aside their mined counterparts offering great value for money.

Meet Adam Hoffman, CEO of ISROUGH Technologies

A serial entrepreneur raised on a diet of chemistry, physics, and the intricate world of lab-grown diamonds.

Adam grew up speaking and breathing lab-grown diamonds, thanks to his father’s career as a leading chemistry professor at the Technion, specializing in the thin film and surface properties of CVD diamonds.

It was as a teen, attending technical and scientific conferences all over the world, that Adam first developed a relationship with the leaders of Japanese company Cornes Technologies, which would eventually become vertically integrated with ISROUGH.

Adam had a lifelong dream of turning his love and knowledge of diamonds into a business. But he wanted the right toolbox to do it properly. Only after studying the material science and chemistry of lab-grown diamonds at Technion for several years did he set up shop, with the economical backing of relatives.

And in just short eight years since our founding, ISROUGH has developed a unique infrastructure, becoming the only company in the world to own an entire diamond supply chain, from where our gasses are sourced to the technology and equipment we use, to the fact that we grow their own diamond “seeds”, to our established partnerships with expert Israeli diamond cutters and market distributors all over the world.

2014

Adam sets up a hub for lab-grown diamonds - a technological greenhouse - with the goal of creating a business model based on growing and distributing lab grown diamonds.

The mother company is named ICDAT - Israeli Center of Advanced Diamond Technologies

2015

ISROUGH is founded together with Ofer Mizrachi, who is seeking a partner to bring innovation into the world of diamonds.

With Ofer Mizrahi’s partnership comes his vast network. Ofer is one of the largest exporters of diamonds in Israel, and is very dominant in the North American and European market, with approximately 5000 points of sale.

ISROUGH develops a business model upon Ofer’s distribution network in North & South America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

2015-2018

ISROUGH engages in research and development, refining our process and materials to achieve an unparalleled product - the cream of the diamond market. Each ISROUGH diamond receives very high scores on the Rapaport Scale of the Gemological Institute of America, in the four Cs of carat, cut, clarity and color.

2019

Cornes Technologies, ISROUGH’s Japanese reactor manufacturer that controls most of the reactor market, becomes vertically integrated with ISROUGH. This cements our position as a premium diamond grower.

Cornes invests $10 million with ISROUGH in the form of their innovative SEKI Diamond System reactors, giving the company the ability to go into full production, refine and strengthen our infrastructure, and grow commercially.

2021

After industrializing our processes, we are able to further increase the size and quality of our diamonds.

ISROUGH also acquires a new, larger facility of 8,000 square meters, which will tremendously compound our manufacturing capabilities.

The new facility is in a preferred development area near the Nof Hagalil in the north of Israel, allowing us to access many government incentives.

2022

We achieve a technological breakthrough which grows our throughput per system by 60%, without increasing any direct costs or processing time. Such breakthroughs are why we are supported by Israel’s chief scientists. By the end of this year, we hope to complete our facility setup and have another 100 reactors up and running, allowing us to meet the supply demands of our clients.

Goals for 2023 and beyond

  • Grow our output capacity by at least four times, putting out very high-quality goods at a level never achieved by any other company.
  • Open brick and mortar stores to sell our own jewelry.
